Overview

SGS Coffee Chats for Faculty is a new series designed for reflection, connection, and shared growth in graduate supervision. Open to faculty at any career stage who supervise students in a research-stream program, this initiative blends storytelling, guided discussion, and collegial exchange to strengthen both technical and human aspects of mentorship.

Each session features a storytelling format, where a faculty member shares a personal experience of supervision—whether a success that inspired new practices or a challenge that led to valuable insight. Space will be limited to 12 participants, and members from the Centre for Graduate Mentorship and Supervision (CGMS) will remain present to support the discussion.

Our first session will be led by Professor Jessica Fields from the tri-campus Sociology Department. Fields will share her experiences mentoring students who are navigating academic life with disabilities, and whose disabilities often shape their academic interests in meaningful ways.

This event will be offered in-person on Wednesday March 11 from 9:00 – 10:30 AM ET: REGISTER HERE
