Managing Interpersonal Challenges in the Supervisory Relationship: Student Workshop

January 30 @ 10:00 am 12:00 pm EST

(Previously “Understanding Conflict” and “Having Difficult Conversations”) This workshop will be taught by Aziza Kajan, Director, and Lauren Pais, Case Coordinator.

Good supervision is a shared responsibility between a graduate student and their supervisor. You will need strong interpersonal communication skills to establish mutual expectations, hold each other to high academic standards, be self-reflective, and address concerns in a timely manner with clarity, empathy, and understanding. This workshop helps participants understand where interpersonal challenges may arise and how disagreements escalate in the supervisory relationship. This workshop offers practical approaches and strategies you can incorporate to resolve and manage interpersonal challenges in your supervisory relationship, including a step-by-step guide to having difficult conversations. Participants will be provided with case studies and asked to make use of what they have learned in guided group conversations.
